A Winter Remix of Namco's game Pac-Man. Collect all of the ice crystals (pellets) to win while dodging the enemy. This game is portrait so hold your iPad the way the score is written. So far only has one enemy and one life, but the rest will come soon. Please comment if you find an error and if you can what you were doing before the error occurred.

All 4 ghosts now chase you in the maze and you have 5 lives, but there are still a lot of glitches that I don't think I can fix, I don't even know how they can happen. So I will either give up entirely and leave it like this or eventually I might delete and re add the ghosts because they have too much to search through to find bugs.

Suggestions:

  1. Make the controls better. The small joystick is hard to use. Maybe swiping?

Things to add (possibly):

  • game over screen when you lose

  • 256 levels with faster ghosts and edible timers, and the split screen level (256) (instead of having levels get harder and harder you could just increase the time scale.)

  • updated screenshots

  • a main menu

  • make a ghost reset to the ghost house when it goes too far out the screen (glitch)

  • make your own joystick graphic

  • add control options (swipe, joystick that doesn't automatically reset, normal joystick)

Lol the next update I release will also say fixes the bug that causes ghosts to leave the maze, I found another bug in this update and fixed it on my iPad. I now have on my iPad all 4 ghosts working, but I found yet another glitch that causes the ghosts to stuff up... Really annoying

I like the new update. I still feel the controls are unresponsive. Can you do swipe controls on he screen coordianates?

Yes I'll do that, a settings button or something that gives you a choice of controls. The joystick doesn't feel that unresponsive to me, but the way you're meant to play it is holding iPad portrait and always holding the joystick never letting go unless you want to stand still for some reason. Works for me.

Great update. This is a really impressive pac-man clone :)

Some feedback:

  • I also forget which one I am. Especially now that there is another similarly coloured pac-man! I guess this is why the original game used ghosts ;).
  • When you pick up the orbs to eat the ghosts, it's not apparent enough that they are now in a different state. Since everything is blue, they sort of just blend in.
  • When killing a ghost and they go back to the middle, they don't go back to the middle fast enough.
  • When I run into one, the game sort of continues even though I lose a life. In the original, the game stops, and you restart
  • Need some waka waka waka sounds ;)

Yes I am missing a lot, I was definitely planning on adding a different graphic for the enemies and the losing a life part was kind of rushed. It's still very much a work in progress.

There are hidden objects in a group called walls where the walls are and hidden objects in a group called intersections where intersections are, when the enemy collides with an intersection it spawns an object one tile in every direction from that intersection, all the ghost does is calculates the distance from all four spawned objects and finds out which calculation is the smallest, the ghost will travel in the direction that gave the smallest result. If one of the spawned objects collides with a wall they don't count for the ghost. How's that?

This makes the ghost dumb sometimes, it might choose a direction that gets itself closer to the player for a second but taking longer to actually reach the player.

Lol... Yea there aren't any lives yet but there is only one enemy, I will add the rest of the enemies with added lives once I get the Ai completely right for the current enemy, so then I can just duplicate them and slightly change their AI to match the real game.

Right now, the AI is as hard to get past as Destiny on impossible mode. The only reason I got that far was because the enemy glitched out and came back in.

Have you played original pacman? I've made the AI exactly the same, maybe there are some tiny exceptions.

I still think that you shouldn't put the joystick in the top-right hand corner. It's some times hard to control. Otherwise, I love the game.πŸ˜‹πŸ˜€

Right, up, right, down so you collect the power pill, I think it might have something to do with the ghost changing from scatter mode without hitting an intersection

Fixed ghost going through walls I think because it was reversing direction like a millisecond after it turns a corner. I have half fixed the player going through walls, might update it as soon as I fix that.

I found 2 bugs, they may be caused by the beta though:

  1. Pacghost went through the wall (didn't even collide with me)

  2. Moving the joystick diagonally while entering a T intersection from one side lets you go partly inside the wall, doesn't happen from the other side though

Also, the controls are a lot better this way, but maybe change the default joystick background

I haven't changed the joystick yet but planning to, when exactly did you and the ghost go through the wall? They did on the previous version if you times something right but I have never done it on new version.

Ok I did just manage to go partially in a wall, when it happened the arrows on the joystick were flickering even though my finger was still. There isn't any reason I know that could cause that other than hyperpads joystick behaviours not working perfectly. I could be wrong I will have to have another look.

I'm not sure what the bug is, you'll have to ask Aidan but I think it has something to do with it not detecting collisions when an object collides with two things at the exact same time, but I may be wrong, it could be a problem with the game.

Ok there is no way I can move the map up to fit a joystick in the bottom corner because when I use box select then move (snap) everything gets messed up and I would have to enter the coordinates for all the objects again, or delete and add back if it's easier. I didn't think of it until I started writing this, but I could just move the camera down.

It still has some glitches, you sure the enemy should be a broken animation of pacman but red?? Lol. I'm trying to make it original original, not like the other Neave Pac-Man or whatever it is. It's still missing some other minor stuff other than all 4 ghosts and has horrible controls.

I'll let you guys decide, what would be better controls? Joystick, invisible buttons over the map so tap in direction you want to go, keep the arrows but make them more like the original where if you touch them they will stay pressed until you reach the next turn? Should the controls be on the bottom instead of the top? If hyperpad can do it I can move the entire map up but sometimes it leaves some objects behind.

Combine arrows and joystick by making the arrows the base and make the moving part of the joystick invisible, that'll also be good because then you can change directions without letting go of the screen. Move the screen so the directions can be moved.

Great paceman clone! The movement is really good. My only complaint is that I'm not a fan of where the joystick is placed. It's hard to get at. Either put it at the bottom, or make it a landscape game.

Great start though, I'd love to see this move forward :)
