Another new user on Hyperpad! Well, how're you doing today? I got some tips and feedback for you, so brace yourself!

  1. With game making comes a type of maturity. If people are to fall off of the blocks, then they're forever falling down, and with just the background, it looks as if the screen is frozen. Rather, you should have an empty object, and when you touch it, the level should restart. Also, the player should be in the middle of the screen, or close to the middle of it. When the player is so to the side you can't see its left surroundings. To fix this you could make the screen follow only when the player gets to a certain point (represented by another invisible empty object). So, by "maturity" I mean that it's important you publish your games when people would want to play them. You can publish them early to get feedback, but you still need to check for bugs and annoying imperfections.

  2. You used Hyperpad's graphics... Which is totally fine! However, you still want to develop your own style and impress. The hub has seen way too many of these grassy-type "hill" games. You can start like this, but you should eventually take it farther.

  3. Along with this art style I was talking about... Your game should have a style to it. These simple platformer games are so common... Try to come up with your own style, or just look through the App Store for help with different ideas and elements. Making a functional addicting game is hard but rewarding!

  4. And finally, try to include a polished menu or logo screen, even if they aren't necessary. They make your game seem really professional. You can also get that professional feel from different particles, sound effects, and animations. They really bring flavor and pizzas to your game!

And that's it! Hopefully that wasn't too much stuff... I wish you luck in the future and I hope you have fun making more different games!

Wait a second... I'm looking around - are you part of some type of coding/Hyperpad class?

July 15, 2016

Could be. Your tips were very well written, and I agree with all of them.

July 15, 2016

Thanks @54rush, but if @test1 already has a teacher then... Lol...

July 15, 2016

Haha true.

These basic platformer games are flooding on to the hub, Its becoming a problem since there is less variety in what we can use and play. kids need to be told how to make different games with there own graphics not hype rpads

July 16, 2016

They're probably going to get there. My guess is that they're taking certain steps to making games.

July 16, 2016

Isn't there some kind of "school hub" these students can use? I'm finding the beginner games kind of annoying, and they don't really need to be hit with a mass of downvotes from the main hub.

July 16, 2016

Yeah, me too. But who can really stop them without being mean and such?

July 16, 2016

Can't the students or administrator of their class read these comments?

July 16, 2016

Yeah lol, but I'm sort of fighting for their rights :). Anyway, they should know about our community and the spirit of Hyperpad, shouldn't they?

July 16, 2016

Yes of course. I always loved the thought of Hyperpad spreading, however if there are too many projects being submitted each day, some might get overlooked.

July 16, 2016

Yeah, Hyperpad definitely deserves more popularity. On the other hand, Hyperpad attracts people who like this stuff, and they stick with it. Hopefully it doesn't become Gamepress, because their arcade became just crazy and robust, especially compared to Hyperpad's.

July 16, 2016

I agree. The developers are monitoring HyperPad, though. They won't allow something like that to happen. I bet HyperPad would get extremely popular if people knew about it. It's such an easy coding tool used in a creative way, and I find myself making things on HyperPad I never thought I would be able to create.

July 16, 2016

Yup! It's definitely way better than Scartvh XD. Be thankful for the amazing Murtaza and Hamed!

July 16, 2016

Haha yes. You meant Scratch, right?

July 16, 2016

Oh yeah 😅

July 16, 2016

Lol

July 17, 2016

How old are you @54rush?

July 17, 2016

I personally just don't like to give out that info, sorry :)

July 17, 2016

Oh, that's ok! I was just wondering, but we did have a lecture at school about that stuff - how it's bad and all.
