PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Share this project:

Well this is very far from finished. I uploaded this to get some ideas. Though some stuff are set in stone I'd really appreciate any advice I can get in this stage. What I'm working on here is an addictive sort of game that I might eventually publish to the App Store. I've already created the help section so you can get all the information there. I'm working on two modes-one that's infinite and then a level mode. So far I only have two levels under the level section. If you tap infinite mode then it'll take you to a blank screen and you'll have to start the game all over. This isn't for you to say needs work and dislike but rather for you nice guys to help out. I'd really like feedback on stuff like game elements, controls, glitches, graphics (so far they're all Hyperpad's but I'm working on it), different ideas, and just any general feedback. I'll be upgrading this frequently when I make small changes. I really look forward to what you guys have to say :)

By the way, I'm working on the screenshots, banners, and icon. Soon it'll accurately represent my project. Sry

I see what you mean when you commented on mine. Thank you! Awesome game!

January 29, 2016

Thanks I'm still working on it :>

January 25, 2016

Does anybody have any clever title or wording ideas that I could use to get people to play this next time?

January 25, 2016

I don't think the issue is really the title. Remember, the very first thing anyone sees is your icon. That's the first thing they're attracted to. So try to make a really compelling icon that represents your project. You also want something unique enough that it doesn't look like it's taken from google images. We notice that projects that have poor icons are less likely to be played.

Next thing users see are your screenshots. Your screenshots should show the best things about your project. They should really make the user want to play it. Also, don't be afraid to modify these or add some marketing text. Look at the App Store, most of the successful apps don't have plain screenshots of their app. They often add text, or something to draw attention to how awesome they are than the competition.

Finally your description. It's just a wall of text. Not enough line breaks. And it's too much. Your first sentence should have the reader hooked. You don't want to start off by saying it's unfinished. Leave that until the end.

January 25, 2016

Ok I'll put way more thought into it next time. I didn't realize these things when I published this beta, and I'll make sure to upgrade smart. I'm currently working on a level system and the graphics so I'll have something to brag about before saying it's unfinished next time. Thanks so much for all of your help and suggestions.

Make characters to unlock or upgrades

January 26, 2016

Mabey make the title " the adventures of slimy" or something like that

January 26, 2016

Ok thx. I'm currently working on a different reward system. I'll add this in after a few more updates mainly. I'm using my updates to seperate different stages in my editing process.

January 26, 2016

So are we working on the game together? Did you get my most recent email?

January 25, 2016

Can you update your game with proper screenshots and an icon? I'm noticing a trend where people are not taking that requirement too seriously. I'm going to start removing games and potentially suspending users from submitting soon!

January 25, 2016

Yes, I'm sorry about that. I'll make sure to update it next time. It's just a headache doing all the changing pixels after I take the screenshots and make the custom screens. Do you know a good app for photo quality so that I don't have to transfer it from my iPad to my computer and back?

January 25, 2016

I mostly use desktop apps for graphics and images. I want to put together a list apps to use with hyperPad, but still searching for the right tools. So if anyone has recommendations, I'm happy to try them out and put together a list of the best :).

January 25, 2016

Well I use this app Pixely for like all joy graphics.

January 25, 2016

*my graphics I meant

January 24, 2016

Make one arrow facing up and the right.Click on one or the other to go the different directions

January 24, 2016

Oh that's a good idea. I'll try that out. Never thought of it for some reason.

January 24, 2016

If you make people allowed to make there own version I can make the arrow controls for you.

January 25, 2016

No that part I can really do myself. It's not that hard to make two arrows and change which two objects two behaviors see centered towards to. I'm not allowing people to branch this objet because then I'll start a Hyperpad trend. People branch the game, and then make a new project and basically recreate the same thing when they see a good game. I want to take this to the next level and publish this to the App Store someday.

January 24, 2016

Yea I agree the controls are difficult, mabey make the controls sorta like geometry dash

January 24, 2016

That's one button. I was thinking of having at least a two button control thing, and keeping the concept. Do you have any other screen control ideas?

January 24, 2016

Pretty cool concept, and look forward to playing more.

  • The controls are a bit difficult. I couldn't really get the hang of them. This could be just me?
  • I didn't know how to play at first. I almost always ignore help screens, so try to teach your players how to play with out these type of screens. You can create a simple "training" level that the player doesn't even know is a training level. Just introduce each element of gameplay until they get everything. So the first bit would be introducing the controls, the next bit, what blocks to avoid etc. Basically teach the player how to play your game, by actually having them play the game. Use clever level design and game design. I always refer to mario, as they do this perfectly in mario. In the first few seconds you experience everything you need to figure it out and it's set up in a way that makes you figure it out on your own.
  • Are there only 2 levels? Third level goes black. I get that it's work in progress, but maybe put something up saying more is coming soon, and a way to play again from the beginning.. This way your players know it's not completely broken ;).

January 24, 2016

Ok thanks. Yes, I was eager to upload it and didn't proof it for this sort of stuff. Instead I made a long description that probably no one read. I'll add in the tutorial when I'm done with all the levels and the infinite game when I'm adding the final touches. I customized the help screen but I'll build it in somehow as a tutorial. Do you have any better ideas for the gameplay using the same main game concept?

January 24, 2016

Nice, I like a challenging game. You said on a reply about creating your own graphics, that will definitely make it unique. One thing I recommend in graphics it to add tints and shades to make the graphics look polished for example: the current graphics on your game have a shade to make the character stand out and the tint to give the graphic character. For levels try making some that are long, basically like having a boss fight in other games where it is more difficult and longer than normal levels, but make sure these levels have checkpoints. As I have learned from Murtaza always make the player feel rewarded when ending or finishing the game. Have explosions, scores, and maybe even a star rating out of 3 as seen in angry birds. Also have a variety of levels and maybe even chapters? Space sewage, city sewage, country home sewage all with either the same water enemy or a new enemy. This game has a lot of potential, just keep it simple and challenging.

January 24, 2016

Okay, thanks for commenting. I published this as a constructive beta so I wanted to see what you liked about it and if I could also get some advice. I was really focusing on idea and game control for a while and I finally settled on this. I guess I made the right decision. I'm really working on making it visually appealing and rewarding like you said. I did not consider the 3 stars but I'll try to do that sort of thing just unique and maybe give out points somewhere like you are giving out points on orb smash? Idk I'm considering making a level system based on points and that star system. Right now it's just progressing levels and then once you finish that you get like a level selection but I was never a fan of that anyway. Thanks for the detailed feedback. I'm really going to be focusing on this game now :)

January 24, 2016

Please add a gameplay screenshot (also nice artwork in sc)

Also I tried to play by tapping around but then the screen went black and froze

January 24, 2016

Oh sorry about that. Did you try again? It never happened to me except for when I'd move on to level 3 because of the saving behaviors, but you would've been starting from level one. Or did you press the infinite button? I'm currently working on world generation, so that would've still been blank.

By the way, most of the graphics are really just Hyperpad's. I put them together in different ways. I'm currently working on my own graphics as well.
